21st Century Learning

2020 - 2021 is going to be another exciting year for Jellick! While we continue with our virtual and distance learning model due to COVID-19, we are fortunate to support teaching and learning with a variety of tools and support. Students in TK through second-grade use iPads. The remaining students use Chromebooks.

Our primary learning platforms will be Seesaw and Google Classroom. Visit your child’s teacher on the Jellick Staff page to find out more details. You can also contact them via the email link. Technology is only a tool, and your child’s teacher has worked very hard to create content to support their learning using a variety of applications. We still expect students to demonstrate digital citizenship and follow the RUSD Appropriate Use Policy.

Part of being a 21st Century learner is knowing and using digital literacy and citizenship. Here are a few links where you can keep informed and find information to support your child. Connect Safely gives good advice to parents of students of all ages. You may even wonder about what digital literacy or digital citizenship is. To find out more, here is an article on digital literacy and digital citizenship

Parenting is challenging enough without having to figure out all the technology. NetFamilyNews.org has some relevant information that can help parents. Cyberbullying is often in the news, and many parents are concerned about this (and bullying in general) aspect of students and technology. Here is an interesting article regarding cyberbullying

Jellick makes every effort to keep students safe. We teach both academics and behavior as we prepare students for secondary school. When students break the rules and inappropriately use technology, we make sure the victim is safe and inform the parents. We discipline students according to district and site policy with every effort to teach what they did wrong and how they can make better decisions in the future. We know we learn from mistakes and make every effort not to repeat mistakes of the past.
