Celebrate Dr. Seuss' Birthday at Jellick

Jellick Elementary School's philosophy is 'Reading is the Gateway to Learning'.

Several years ago, Dr. Seuss took 220 words, rhymed them and turned out The Cat in the Hat', a little volume of absurdity that worked like a karate chop on the weary little world of Dick, Jane and Spot. From this magically right beginning came the concept of Beginner Books, exacting blends of words and pictures that encourage children to read—all by themselves. Hailed by elementary educators and remedial reading specialists, these enormously popular books are now used in schools and libraries throughout the worlds.

In celebration of Dr. Seuss' Birthday Wednesday, March 2, 2011, we are inviting parents, relatives, community members to participate by reading to students. You may choose a book of your own to read or the teacher will be happy to provide a book for you. You need not limit yourself to Dr. Seuss books. The students at Jellick enjoy a variety of genre, including mystery, humorous, biography and poetry. Please allow yourself approximately 15-20 minutes in the classroom.

We would also like to invite you to a 'Thank you Open House' in the office lounge area between 9:30 —11:30 AM. There will be refreshments for you to enjoy and time to meet and speak with the staff before or after your reading.

If you would like to participate & have not yet filled out the form sent home with your child, feel free to print one out & return to the front office by Friday, February 18.

** In addition, please join us in Jellick's Multi - Purpose room for a Pajama Read - In from 6:30pm - 8:30pm.  Wear your pajamas, bring your pillows, blankets & favorite books for a night of reading & family fun!  Milk & cookies will be provided.

Hope to see you there!!!
